This post is about a cot, not a cradle, nevertheless I didn’t want to miss on the opportunity for this pun (particularly for the metalheads. It is for a cot and for very filthy service from the cot seller.
Some months now we have a new baby (one of the reasons that I do not have any time to write here more often. We reached a point where we need to switch from the cradle (which btw is squeaky clean) to a cot. We ordered a cot from a place which is famous for its low price and optimized packaging. Contrary to what the memes suggest, the instructions are most of the time clear and easy to apply. I opened the package, checked that nothing was missing and started the assembly. However soon I noticed that the horizontal part (made from wooden beams fixed with pretensioned fabric) had a cambered beam. This was not supposed to happen, as I had bought another cot in the past and I know the system. It had to be straight. Additionally for this to take full loads, the beam had to be straight, it was not only for aesthetics.
First thing we did was to take some pictures and send them to customer service. Having some previous experience with faulty furniture from this shop, I knew that they would suggest to bring the whole thing back and get a new one. But I had chosen shipment in the first place because I do not have the time nor the money to take the car, drive there, discuss, carry the whole package, come back and waste another 20 minutes to get parking and carry the cot from the car to my house (and to reassemble the cot). This is stupid and inefficient and this is what happened with the an older purchase, although back then it was about a big bookcase, where I realised that one of the small shelves was not predrilled to accommodate for some dowels. I saw that after I had assembled 80% of the bookcase, and they told me to bring back the whole thing, just to replace a 0.5 * 0.5 piece of wood. Totally dumb.
With this experience in hand, I decided to test the system. And what happened we are going to see in the next post.
